SiFive has announced two new high-performance IP blocks with the Intelligence X390 NPU and the Performance P870 RISC-V core that should find their way into SoC designed for Generative AI and ML applications. We had already covered the Performance P870 and its automotive sibling – the P870-A – from information in an earlier presentation, but the SiFive Intelligence X390 NPU is new to me and appears to be aimed at generative AI in data centers, although we will very soon be seeing companies implement generative AI at the edge in pretty powerful embedded devices. Android 14 released, source code hits AOSP
Google has just released Android 14 for supported devices such as Google Pixel phones and pushed the source code to AOSP (the Android Open-Source Project). Most of the changes to the fourteenth version of the Android operating system were introduced with the first Android 14 developer preview – released in February 2023 – which included performance improvements, better privacy and security, and additional user-side customization options. ZX05 mini PC with Processor N100 CPU, 12GB RAM goes for $133 and up
ZX05 is another Intel Processor N100 Alder Lake-N mini PC whose main selling points are its PC stick-like size (145 x 62 x 20mm) and its price with the device selling for $132.62 and up on AliExpress with 12GB RAM and an M.2 2280 socket for an NVMe SSD. Despite its dimensions, the pocket-sized PC comes with two HDMI ports, three USB 3.2 Gen 1 ports, gigabit Ethernet, WiFi 5 and Bluetooth 5.2, and an audio jack which should cover most basic computing use cases. Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K Max (2023) features a 2 GHz MediaTek MT8696T CPU, support WiFi 6E
Amazon has recently introduced its second-generation Fire TV Stick 4K and Fire TV Stick 4K Max 2023 powered by MediaTek MT8696D and MT8696T Arm Cortex-A55 processors respectively and going for $49.99 and $59.99 on Amazon. The new Fire TV Stick 4K Max model is an incremental update compared to the Fire TV Stick 4K Max (2021) with basically the same processor but clocked slightly higher, twice the storage capacity, and WiFi 6E support instead of just WiFi 6. The Fire TV Stick 4K (2023) is a more notable update compared to the very first Fire TV Stick 4K launched in 2018. Amlogic S905X5 Armv9 TV Box SoC supports AV1, H.266, Ai-SR
The Amlogic S905X5 may be first the Armv9 processor designed for set-top boxes (STB) and TV boxes, supports the latest AV1 and H.266 video codecs, and also comes with a 4 TOPS AI accelerator. We don’t have the full details yet, and the news comes from a tease from SEI Robotics which is about to unveil an Amlogic S905X5 AI-SR (AI Super Resolution) Android TV box at IBC 2023. Rockchip RK3562-powered Android 13 tablets are starting to show up
Back in March, Rockchip showcased some tablets powered by the new 2.0 GHz Rockchip RK3562 quad-core Cortex-A53 processor, and now commercial Android 13 tablets based on the SoC are starting to show up with models such as BMAX MaxPad I9 PLUS and UMIDIGI G1. Both tablets have pretty much the same specifications with a 10.1-inch IPS display with 1280×800 resolution, 8GB RAM, 64GB eMMC flash, front-facing and rear cameras, and a few ports such as USB-C and an audio jack. As its name implies the Orange Pi Zero 2W is an alternative to the Raspberry Pi Zero 2W with basically the same features and form factor, but equipped with a slightly more powerful Allwinner H618 quad-core Cortex-A53 clocked at 1.5 GHz, and more RAM options from 1GB to 4GB.
