The LyRa handheld game console is the first of its kind to carry a Raspberry Pi CM3L module inside. We reported on the Raspberry Pi Compute Module 3 Light in early 2017, and its significant features and abilities. The LyRa is being developed by Creoqode who started their campaign on Kickstarter in July 2019. The campaign has already surpassed its funding goal, and it looks like the LyRa will become a reality. The LyRa comes in two versions 1. RTG – Ready-To-Go which is a completely assembled and ready to play handheld game console, computer and entertainment console. 2. DIY – Do-It-Yourself version comes in pieces that can be made into a fully functioning handheld game console in about 15 minutes. The unit features a Raspberry Pi CM3L module which is able to emulate literally hundreds of classic game consoles and games. The unit can attach through HDMI to a […]

Pine64 unveiled a Pinebook Pro laptop prototype at FOSDEM 2019 as an update to the original Allwinner A64 powered Pinebook laptop, but instead of just being a toy to play with, Pinebook Pro aimed to be used as a daily driver thanks to a relatively powerful Rockchip RK3399 processor combined with 4GB RAM, and 64/128GB storage, and equipped with a 14″ Full HD display all for a target price of $200. Last May, we noticed some good progress on the software development side with a demo showcasing Ubuntu & Debian with MATE desktop, 4K video playback, 3D graphics acceleration, and USB-C video output. Raspberry Pi 4 ICE Tower CPU Cooling Fan Tested
Most of us know the Raspberry Pi 4 can get pretty hot, and a heatsink is required if you intend to get the maximum performance out of your board under heavy loads and/or high ambient room temperature. Some even designed a large fansink for Raspberry Pi 4 to prevent the board from throttling. It’s actually a bit over the top, but Seeed Studio sent me a sample of their “ICE Tower CPU cooling fan”, so I’ve had the chance to test it. ICE Tower Cooling Fan Unboxing & Assembly with Raspberry Pi 4 The package tells us it’s made by 52Pi and design specifically for Raspberry Pi 4B/3B+/3B SBC’s. It’s probably not that useful for the last two. The package contains the heatsink with fan attached, screw sets, a screwdrivers, mounting brackets for Raspberry Pi 3/3B+ and RPi 4, as well as a useful user manual. Raspberry Pi 3 and […]

Chuwi HiPAD LTE Tablet Review – Part 2: Android 8.0
Last month, I received HiPad LTE tablet, and in the first part of the review I checked out the specifications of the 10″ tablet with a MediaTek Helio X27 deca-core processor, 3GB RAM, 32 GB storage, and had a look at the accessories including the keyboard dock. I’ve now had more time to actually play with the device, so I’ll report my experience with Android 8.0, and the pros and cons of the latest Chuwi tablet. General Impressions My previous tablet was Onda V18 Pro, and Chuwi HiPad LTE is clearly an upgrade thanks to the faster Heliox X27 deca-core processor coupled with 3GB of RAM. The 10.1″ display has a 1920×1200 resolution, not quite as good as the 2560×1600 resolution of the Onda tablet, but I still found the screen to be crispy and sharp. I found the tablet to be great for browsing the web and watching YouTube […]
Waveshare Jetbot AI Kit for NVIDIA Jetson Nano Board Sells for $100 and Up
NVIDIA Jetson Nano developer kit was launched for $99 last March with impressive specifications for the price including one module with four Arm Cortex-A57 cores, a 128-core Maxwell GPU, and 4GB LPDDR4 RAM. The company also introduced Jetbot robot based on the new board, with all instructions available on Github, but until now you had to put some efforts to build it up as the fairly long list of parts had to be purchased or 3D printed separately. It’s now become easier, as Waveshare has started selling their Jetbot AI kit on Amazon for $122.99 without Jetson Nano, and $259.99 with, meaning you may be better off purchasing NVIDIA board separately for around $100, or you may purchase the complete kit directly on Waveshare website for $215.99 plus shipping, or $99.99 without the SBC. hIoTron Launches Smart Cold Chain Management PaaS & Hi-Gate Tracker
The hIoTron monitoring system is designed to be middleware for smart cold chain systems, which can be found in food transport, pharmaceutical transport and even some chemical transport systems. We previously covered any product from the company in April of 2018 with the hIoTron modular and enterprise development kit that helps with prototyping of IoT devices. Cold Chain Systems The company has now developed a commercial product designed for one of the most sensitive platforms in supply chain management: the cold chain. A cold chain system is a distribution process that requires constant monitoring of a product’s surrounding environment while in transit or storage before or after transit. The actions and equipment in low-temperature ranges would be maintained at a constant between 2 and 8 ℃ (36 to 46 ℉) to maintain the integrity of the product, food, drug, or chemical, from harvest/production through to consumption. These complex systems can […]
Beelink GT1 Mini 2 Amlogic S905X3 TV Box is Now Sold for $70
Around two weeks ago, we covered Beelink GT1 Mini 2 that was one of the first TV boxes to get an Arm Cortex-A55 processor, namely the latest Amlogic S905X3 quad-core processor, and the company also shared benchmarks showing Amlogic S905X3 was only marginally faster than Amlogic S905X2 quad-core Cortex-A53 SoC. As shown in our S905X3 vs S905X2 comparison, the main improvements for the former are the presence of an NPU for AI acceleration, and support for faster DDR4 memory up to 3,200 MHz. Upon the announcement, one person noticed the TV box was sold for $80 on GearBest with the default configuration of 4GB RAM and 64GB storage, and while the price has now dropped to $73.99 on GB, Beelink GT1 Mini 2 can now be purchased found for just $69.99 on Aliexpress including worldwide shipping. Beelink GT1 Mini 2 specifications: SoC – Amlogic S905X3 quad-core Arm Cortex-A55 processor @ […]
