Xebec Converts Your Laptop into a Triple Monitor Laptop (Crowdfunding)

Xebec a Triple Screen Device Add-on for Laptops Xebec has developed a two-screen addon for laptops ranging from 10″ to 20″ effectively expanding any laptop into a triple monitor laptop. The idea of extending a laptop screen is not new. Mobile Pixels had developed an attachable extension screen called the DUO and we reported on it in a previous article. Xebec is a Sailing Ship A Xebec is a small three sail ship, with square sails, a very apropos term for this system of three small square screens. Go Anywhere With Triple the Screens The aim is to be able to attach the screens on-the-go and have them work as well as a full monitor. Xebec’s two-screen extension attaches to the back of any monitor screen. The pair of displays slide left and right so their screens are completely viewable. The System Is Lightweight The unit weighs 1.9 lbs […]

Another GD32 RISC-V Development Kit with LCD By Seeed Studio

SeeedStudio GD32 RISC-V kit with LCD

Recently we highlighted the $5 Longan Nano, a development kit released by Sipeed for the Gigadevice GD32V RISC-V family of microcontrollers. The Sipeed Longan Nano is powered by the GigaDevice’s GD32VF103CBT6, based on Nucleisys Bumblebee kernel (support RV32IMAC instruction sets and ECLIC rapid interrupt). Seeed Studio is currently on this quest for expanding the Gigadevice GD32V RISC-V ecosystem with the launch of the SeeedStudio GD32 RISC-V kit with LCD. The Seeed Studio development kit is based on the SeeedStudio GD32 RISC-V Dev Board and a 2.8 inch 240×320 pixel resistive LCD screen. The Seeed Studio GD32 RISC-V Dev Board is based on the 32-bit general-purpose GD32VF103VBT6 MCU, which can run at up to 108MHz. It comes with a 128KB on-chip Flash memory, and a 32KB SRAM memory.  The development board comes with a total of 80 GPIOs, an onboard 8MB Flash and 256 Byte EEPROM, a staggering amount resources for this […]

Pretech F700Mi Low Cost 7″ Fanless Mini Laptop Features an Intel Atom X5 Cherry Trail Processor

Low cost mini laptop

We’ve covered a fair amount of mini laptops with 7″ to 9″ displays in the last few years, but most came with a fairly high price due to the somewhat high specs with Amber Lake or Gemini Lake processors, 8GB+ RAM, 128GB+ storage, etc… meaning in most cases you’d have to pay between $500 and $1,000 for a small device. If you’d like to have such a mini laptop for simple tasks but don’t quite want to spend that much money on it, Pretech F700Mi Mini laptop with a 7″ display should be much cheaper thanks to an Intel Atom X5-Z8350 quad-core processor, 4GB RAM, and 32GB to 128GB storage. Pretech F700Mi Mini specifications: SoC – Intel Atom x5-Z8350 quad-core Cherry Trail processor System Memory – 4GB or 8GB RAM Storage – 32GB, 64GB, or 128GB eMMC flash; MicroSD card slot Display – 7″ 1920 x 1200 touchscreen display with […]

Intel Unveils Tremont Low-power x86 Architecture, Lakefield Hybrid Processor

Intel LakeField Processor

Intel Tremont microarchitecture was first leaked in April 2018 as a successor to Goldmont Plus used in Gemini Lake processors among others. But Intel has now made it official and revealed details about Tremont architecture at Linley Fall Processor Conference in Santa Clara, California. The new architecture is said to deliver significant IPC (instructions per cycle) gains compared with Intel’s prior low-power x86 architectures. Tremont-based processors will target client devices, IoT products, 5G networking, efficient datacenter servers, etc… Tremont Architecture Some of the highlights of Tremont architecture include: Intel Core class branch prediction with long history,32 bytes based, L1 predictor (no penalty) and large L2 predictor Out of order fetch – 32KB instruction cache, 32 bytes/cycle, up to 8 outstanding misses 6-wide out of order instruction decode Dual 3-wide clusters Wide decode without the area of a uop cache Optional single cluster mode based on product targets 4 wide allocation […]

Orange Pi AI Stick Lite $20 Neural Compute Stick Ships with Free Training Tools

Orange Pi AI Stick Lite

Shenzhen Xunlong Software launched Orange Pi AI Stick 2801 neural compute stick last year for $69. It was interesting as an alternative to Intel Neural Compute Stick. But once the documentation and SDK were released a few days later we discovered you could only run demos with the stick for that price, and the training tools would cost an extra $149. The excellent news is that the company has now launched an updated, yet similar Orange Pi AI Stick Lite for just $19.99, and best of all the PLAI training tools are now entirely free. Orange Pi AI Stick Lite specifications: ASIC – Gyrfalcon SPR2801S Lightspeeur series processor with 2-dimensional Matrix Processing Engine (MPE) with AI Processing in Memory (APiM) delivering up to 2.8TOPS @ 300mW, 5.6 TOPS @ 100 MHz (peak performance) Storage – eMMC 4.5 flash with 68 MB/s read, 84.69 MB/s write Host interface – USB 3.0/2.0 […]
