Last summer Google launched the Nexus Q a set-top box which main features were its rounded shape and ridiculously high price. Google eventually dropped the product, but at least one Chinese company called Giayee believes in the concept and launched TV BOX101 which just looks like the Nexus Q internally, but instead of OMAP4460, it’s powered by Rockchip RK3066.
Here are some preliminary specifications of the device:
- SoC – Rockchip RK3066 Dual core A9 @ 1.6GHz + Quad Mali-400 GPU
- System Memory 1G DDR3 RAM
- Storage – 8G NAND Flash + micro SD slot
- Video Out – HDMI + AV
- Connectivity:
- Ethernet – 10/100M
- Wifi – 802.11 b/g/n
- USB – 2x USB Host
- Size – Diameter 117mm, Height 108.5mm
- Weight: 363g
- Air Mouse Control
- Wireless Microphone
- Somatic Joypad
- Customized UI
This Android 4.1 device will come with an “Air Mouse Controller”, an HDMI cable, a power supply (5V/3A), and a user manual in English. It’s possible to play games such as Temple Run on the device, something I have not been able to do with a mouse/keyboard on any mini PCs or set-top boxes. I’m not sure if they improving the firmware, or if games just work better with an “air mouse”.
Peter (j1nx) also noticed another version based on AMLogic AML8726-M3, and will try to port XBMC Linux on the device.
The device was available on Aliexpress, but has now disappeared from the site. You can find more information about the device directly on Giayee website.

Somatic joypad??? I thought that might be the air mouse, but there’s also one of those listed….
Nice device!
I wonder what the price will be. Any bets on that …?

We’re talking about this in androidpc.es
Yesterday I went to take one for testing (I have in my hand right now).
Under my oppinion WiFi is slow for streamming. I still must test LAN connection and XBMC of course.
Some info (pending to updates) can be found here: http://www.elezine.com/2013/03/giayee-the-new-android-tv-ball/
By the way, cheaper ($78) in asiapads: http://www.asiapads.com/product_info.php?products_id=2345
Found it even cheeper on Aliexpress ($53,49) -> http://www.aliexpress.com/item/New-arrival-Protable-Google-Android-4-0-Ball-player-Amlogic-AML8726-M3-up-to-1-2GHz/778225033.html
Finally it will be “for free”… 😉
I installed XBMC. 1080p mkv tested failed (reaaaaaaaaally slow). But can play in another player.
LAN conection is better than WiFi. Anyway I could watch some movies.
Design is good.
