Mediatek already has several 5G SoC’s from the mid-range Dimensity 720 to the premium Dimensity 1000+ 5G mobile SoC, with so far only Dimensity 820 and Dimensity 1000+ supporting dual 5G SIM technology.
MediaTek Dimensity 800 processor has just gotten a new variant with Dimensity 800U getting all the same features plus 5G+5G Dual SIM Dual Standby (DSDS) technology, as well as support for dual Voice over New Radio (VoNR), and 5G two carrier aggregation (2CC 5G-CA).

Does anyone have any experience with any recent mtk based phone? Is there any manufacturer who is pushing updates for a reasonable amount of time?
So far the mtk phones were worst when it comes to updates ( even if I’m only talking about security updates, not android bumps).
My most recent mtk is at march 2017, that’s not even a year from announcement of this model…
Mediatek are finally going to rattle the Snapdragon cage in a big way. Looking at how the difference between the Dimensity 1000+ and Snapdragon 855 is not as great as you might imagine but with equivalent phones being around half the price for the price for the Dimensity and you can potentially see the jump in device performances at a cheap price. Amazon seem to use MTK SOC’s in it’s tablets and fire devices, so I suspect that they might be early to market with Dimensity based replacements outside of China. I would love to see this happen, as long as the update policy of mtk phones approach flagship qcom level or even surpass them, as a secondary selling point besides price.
