While there are some similarities, the cheapest Surface Book comes with 8GB RAM and a 128 SSD, and a dual core Core i5 processor that will be much faster than the Apollo Lake processor, and usable for video editing and recent 3D games, which won’t be the case for CHUWI Hi13. Nevertheless, that could still be an interesting option for people looking for a device with a high resolution display for less than $400.
CHUWI Hi13 will be officially released on February 20, with pre-orders for $369 starting on the same date. [Update: You’ll find the device on GearBest, GeekBuying and Aliexpress for about $350]

comparing their Atom with a Core i and an ARM… good one
brb, gonna compare my bicyle with a car and a locomotive…
They should offer the Ubuntu edition with a discount.
And the Ubuntu sells will help them to sell Android and MS WOS 10 editions or dual boot ones too.
If I am not wrong, Chuwi Lapbook supports Linux, can be upgraded to 8GB and costs right not 220€, so we may have finally found the good cheap Chinese Linux laptop.

To be honest: But if I look at this device category the CPU would be the last thing I check. Display and audio quality, Wi-Fi performance and for certain use cases definitely touch+pencil are the things to check (not possible by looking at spec sheets or those comparison tables targeting only absolutely clueless people). And then ‘user experience’ (are there really people around using this Windows 10 stuff?!)
Note: That is yet to be confirmed, gearbest.com says upgradeable to 8GB in their product description, but some people have their doubts about it. So please be cautious with this. I am trying to get confirmation from gearbest.com
@AlexN
I neither know how this ‘as cheap as possible laptop’ relates to this tablet blog post nor why anyone would trust in GB product descriptions or ‘information’ from their ‘support’ staff anyway… but it’s pretty obvious there aren’t SO-DIMM slots present or even possible by thinking about the dimensions of this thing. Of course modules are soldered and you need to deal with BGAs to upgrade DRAM:

Chuwi 14.1 has soldered RAM… but a free m.2 slot for ssd-upgrade.
I’m hoping the Hi13 will have options to upgrade both but even storage upgrade would be super. Oh but it definitely needs Linux support.
I would seriously consider buying this if was configured as a dual boot (win 10 and android) because I own the
Hi10 pro 2 and absolutely love it. Anyone know if they will offer a dual boot one? Thanks.
Chuwi Hi13 has started selling. I’ve added links at the end of the article.
@frank croteau
You could always download Bluestacks and run it from Windows. Maybe even partition the disk and download Google operating system and some sort of software that gives the ability to do dual boot.
I recently bought me one. Gorgeous device: very nice aluminium alloy.
Windows is a disadvantage: i would use it on ubuntu or android.
Ubuntu support is officialy promised by chuwi.
But i can not boot it with ubuntu live cd: only a black screen….
Can anyone help me ?
Please feel free to comment.

There should be a BIOS option for Linux or Windows, then you’ll want to use Ubuntu 17.04 released a few days ago, as older version may not work. I’ve explained this @ http://www.cnx-software.com/2017/02/07/installing-ubuntu-17-04-on-chuwi-lapbook-14-1-apollo-lake-laptop/
If a few things are not working, you may want to try using the latest Linux kernel and respin Ubuntu 17.04 ISO as explained @ http://www.cnx-software.com/2017/03/29/isorespin-sh-script-updates-ubuntu-iso-files-with-mainline-kernel/
