Pipo X7 is yet another mini PC powered by Intel Atom Z3735 / Z3736 quad core processor running Windows 8.1 with Bing, and since it’s now pretty clear all these device should run Ubuntu or other Linux desktop distributions with full GPU support, they’ll gather more interest from Linux users, especially given this mini PC with 2GB and 32GB storage can be pre-ordered for $89.98 on GearBest with PX7CN or PipoX7LM coupon, making it more interesting price-wise than MeegoPad T01, especially since it comes with an Ethernet port, and (probably) an Intel Atom Z3736 processor with a higher burst frequency (2.16 GHz vs 1.83 GHz)
Since GearBest has done a pretty poor job at listing the specs for this item, I got the full technical details from GeekBuying, with some errors as well, but still better:
- SoC – Intel Atom Bay Trail Z3736F up to 2.16 GHz with Intel HD graphics up to 646 MHz.
- System Memory – 2GB DDR3
- Storage – 32GB eMMC (listed as NAND flash?) + micro SD slot (up to 16GB?)
- Video & Audio Output – HDMI up to 1080p
- Audio I/O – HDMI, earphone jack, built-in stereo speakers and microphone
- Connectivity – 10/100M Ethernet, 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi with external antenna, (and Bluetooth??)
- USB – 4x USB 2.0 host ports
- Misc – Power button
- Power Supply – 12V/2A
- Dimensions – 188 x 150 x 24 mm or 188 x 123 x 25 mm (Aluminium enclosure)
- Weight – 403g
The packages only includes the box and a 12V/2A power supply, no cables are provided. It comes with Windows 8.1 with Bing but as usual the license issue is unclear. There’s no Android image, but I’m now very confident Ubuntu should run nicely on the box, possibly with some work required, as Linuxium showed it was possible for MeegoPad T01.

Look interesting device. My Ibox D9i is disappointed, I still have not received it after 2 months of order. Here Chinese review Pipo X7 http://articles.imp3.net/65421-1.html
Waiting for confirmation of Linux functionality — specifically the ability to install *any* distro (not just a specific version of, say, Ubuntu) 🙂
Now this is really interesting, I have a Tronsmart rk3288 sitting collecting dust because no GPU support, I paid a fair buck for it when it was released. Now regretting it since the Intel Atom runs Ubuntu with GPU acceleration.
Just wishing for the day rk3288 supports acceleration. 4k goodness and a box I can mold into anything..
Nice. Things are getting interesting
Any of these have Vesa mounts? Or do they just clutter the desktop?
90$, that’s the price of these things I’m talking about.
Seems Geekbuying has corrected the confusing informations, the page now only mentions Z3726F @ 2.16GHz.
Sorry guys to pop into the conversation, but there are: 1) Intel Z37xx datasheet to check the supported videos (probably not too helpful) https://www-ssl.intel.com/content/www/us/en/processors/atom/atom-z36xxx-z37xxx-datasheet-vol-1.html but if OpenElec/Kodi is not supported on Z37xx yet it is not supported on this one too. If it is – let’s see how. 2) a Chinese site with a rather detailed description of the product https://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=zh-CN&tl=en&u=http://articles.imp3.net/65421-1.html from whence you can see that the boot time is about 30seconds. I own an Onda 102w tablet which has about the same Z37xx processor and is advertised with 32GB eMMC. It boots up in about 20 seconds to… Read more »
@bubu
I’ve been told GearBest parent’s company (Everybuying) had an IPO in china recently (I can’t find any news about that though), and they mainly want to show growth, so with their coupon, they mostly sell at cost.
That partially explains the low price. Other sellers are closer to $100.
Intel Z3736F may be listed as $20 on Intel website, but manufacturers most probably pay less to get the processor. This remark is just based on previous products such as a $60 motherboard including a $72 Intel CPU…

Thanks! First was amazed how empty it is inside, but then have found this little thing

Looks like there would be an expansion of Intel 3735/36 inside models in 2015…
I just receive Pipo X7. amazing
The price should come down to <$70 IMO. Doesn't even have gigabit ethernet nor USB 3.0. I'd never pay $100 for this metal box 🙂
@fossxplorer
Your 100$ is too much @_@
I don’t understand why does it need holes on the sides and in the bottom given that the heat is conducted from the top of the aluminum body. I take it that the box was reused from some other project. That perhaps also explains why there is so much room inside. I would rather purchase a bug-proof 😉 device that could be left working 24h w/o worrying.
Any news about ability to run Linux on the thing? I could use it as a small server then. I Have more desktops/notebooks/tablets than I can use anyway…
The Teclast X89 Air 3G, which shares some similarities with this Pipo X7 (Intel Atom Z3736 Chipset, 2GB RAM), got installed with Windows 10:

I’m wondering if anyone may want to try Windows 10 on his/her Pipo X7 too.
@qwiqooq you should follow our blog, because we already give answer for your question:

Hi guys,
short question about pipo x7:
Is it possible to use audio in with pipo x7? I need it for using Software WXtoImg.
Thanks and kind regards from germany, andy
$120 @ gearbest – are these still < $100 anywhere?
@onebir
I think It’s now sold with a proper Windows license, so you can’t find it for less than $100 anymore.
