ArmSoM-p2 pro is a compact Rockchip RK3308B-S SBC for headless applications

ArmSoM-p2 pro is a compact Rockchip RK3308B-S SBC made by a company called ArmSoM and designed for headless applications with Ethernet, WiFi 5 and Bluetooth 5.0, a USB port, a headphone jack, as well as two GPIO headers for expansion.

The board also comes with 512MB RAM, 8GB eMMC flash and a microSD card slot for storage, extra audio interfaces through the GPIO header, and optional PoE support, all that in a compact 60×52.2mm form factor.

Rockchip RK3308B-S SBC specifications

ArmSoM claims Debian 11 and buildroot support with OS images and some documentation to get started provided in a Wiki. But there’s something odd on the bottom side of the board… I can see a “Bpi” (Banana Pi) logo, and the ArmSoM-p2 pro is actually the same board as the Banana BPI-P2 Pro introduced earlier this year.

Further to this, they point out to SinoVoip (Banana Pi) store on Aliexpress to purchase the ArmSoM-p2 pro board for $31.58 plus shipping., so I’d assume ArmSoM is either a subsidiary of Banana Pi or contracted by them to design some of their boards. Another interesting RK3308 board to point out, especially if you’d like an even smaller form factor, is the Radxa RockPi S SBC that was first unveiled in 2019 and is still sold today.

More details about the ArmSoM-p2 pro board can be found on the product page. The company also seems to have worked on the Banana Pi BPI-W3 board – which they call ArmSoM-W3 – and the corresponding RK3588 system-on-module.

The rk3308 should be a great budget SoC as a low energy A35 of an A53 but also with rockchip the way the memory is implemented makes it a touch slower.
Also from memory the rk3308bs limits you to up to 1.1 GHz cpu clock and it looks like the same mistake Radxa made of not having decoupling caps right at the socs inputs could render the 8 channel ADC useless due to noise.

The price even with the PoE module £25.65 probably still doesn’t make sense with products such as the 1gb Opi03-1gb coming in @ https://www.aliexpress.us/item/1005005789491913.html £12.33

Price seems a bit high, but maybe that’s just due to the inflated SBC prices these days.

And again – no PMIC. Useless for battery powered applications
