The NexDock XL is a 15.6-inch touchscreen laptop shell for a smartphone with wireless charging support and a 360-degree flip capability that can transform it into a laptop or a tablet, and be used in tent mode.

With its USB-C 3.1 with DisplayPort and mini HDMI 1.4a input ports, the laptop shell can also potentially be used with other devices that output video, audio, and data through USB-C or/and HDMI. 15.6-inch laptop shell for smarphone

The NexDock XL ships with a 40W USB-C PD charger with a 1.8m cable, a 20 cm flat USB-C smartphone cable (USB-C 3.1 Gen2), a 100 cm mini HDMI to HDMI cable, and a Quick Start Guide.

NexDock has been doing laptop shells for smartphones since 2016, and over the years, they’ve added touchscreen support, provided displays with Full HD resolution, and the latest NexDock XL is the larger model so far with a 15.6-inch display, and the first to include wireless charging.

The company has launched a pre-order campaign for the NexDock XL, apparently only available in the US, for $349. You’d need to pay a down payment of $100 to book the NexDock XL, and then the remainder plus shipping once manufacturing is complete sometime in Q4 2023. More details may be found in the announcement.

The concept of such product is great imo, but the display resolution and the pricing make it less attractive. You can get a real laptop with ADL-N N100 using also 1080p screen at this price. If they are using a better screen, I would not mind its pricing that much.

The price would have been well justified with an disk Sata slot or USB A port and Ethernet port additional.

But with a battery of this capacity and this resolution, it is a first choice accessory for anyone who has an or many embedded solution (console, smartphone, ARM solution, etc.).

Collectively, this accessory creates an additional workstation per Type-C port available on a machine.

The possibilities for collaborative working or sharing resources on a machine are numerous (Vocational training, education, family, video games, teamwork..)

For 4 years most product with one USB type C are DP. I’m starting to see cards with two USB4/TB4 (with DP), on laptops and on mini-itx motherboards and even Nano-Itx. This type of accessory is becoming practically unavoidable, but it is such a shame to close the target of this product to use only connected smartphone. The 40W charger deters any approach. If he modifies the product for devices with power delivery of 65W or 100W, it’s a hit. A portfolio with product visuals next to a Steamdeck / AYA NEO, NUC / Ultrabook, Nanopi / Radxa, and the… Read more »
