NXP S32K344 evaluation board for mobile robots offers one 100BaseT1, six CAN-FD interfaces

MR-CANHUBK344 is an evaluation board based on NXP S32K344 Arm Cortex-M7 automotive general-purpose microcontroller designed for mobile robotics applications such as autonomous mobile robots (AMR) and automated guided vehicles (AGV) with a 100baseT1 Ethernet interface and six CAN-FD ports.

The six CAN bus connectors come in three pairs of CAN-FD, CAN-SIC (signal improvement), and CAN-SCP (secure) interfaces using NXP chips. The board can notably be used for tunneling CAN over Ethernet using IEEE1722, plus the board is equipped with an SE050 Secure element with NFC for authentication, and various general-purpose peripheral interfaces via DroneCode standard JST-GH connectors.

    • 2x CAN Bus with flexible data rate through TJA144x automotive CAN-FD transceivers

    • 2x TJA1153 secure HS-CAN transceivers with sleep mode

  • Security – NXP EdgeLock SE050 secure element with NFC for authentication, enhanced IoT security
  • Safety – NXP FS26 safety System Basis Chip (SBC) with low power fit for ASIL-D

The NXP S32K344 evaluation board is offered as part of a kit with a DCD-LZ programming adapter board to provide access to a console UART, a USB-UART adapter cable, power adapter cables, six CAN cables and termination boards, one T1 Ethernet cable using a JST-GH connector, several JST-GH cables for UART/SPI/I2C, a small OLED display, and an NFC antenna connected to the Secure Element.

The board can be programmed with the S32 Design Studio for S32 Platform and NXP also provides S32K3 Standard & Reference software, the FreeMASTER Run-Time debugging tool, and a Model-Based Design Toolbox (MBDT). You’ll find links to those along with hardware design files on the product page. I also noticed the PX4 Autopilot open-source flight control software for drones and other unmanned vehicles project recently added support for the NXP board.

The MR-CANHUBK344 development board is still shown as being at the preproduction stage, but samples of the board can be pre-ordered for $179.00 directly from NXP.
