Arduino Plant Watering Kit combines Nano RP2040 Connect with moisture sensor and submersible pump

Arduino Plant Watering Kit

You’ve probably seen a few plant watering projects based on Arduino over the years, and now the company has decided to launch its own Arduino Plant Watering Kit based on the Arduino Nano RP2040 Connect board and everything you need to get started to water your indoor plants.

Arduino Plant Watering Kit content:

  • Arduino Nano RP2040 Connect board (ABX00053) with Raspberry Pi RP2040 MCU, ESP32 module for WiFi, and Bluetooth LE connectivity.
  • Arduino Nano Screw Terminal Adapter (ASX00037)
  • Open-ended USB cable with on/off switch
  • 5V submersible pump
  • 1-meter of plastic hose
  • Grove moisture sensor
  • Grove relay module with cable
  • Grove LED button module with cable
  • Grove cables 50 cm
  • 10x Jumper wires (15 cm)
  • 12x screw connectors

Simply connect the moisture sensor and the water pump (through the relay) to the Nano RP2040 Connect board, insert the moisture sensor in a flower pot, and put the pump in a recipient filled with water. Once the hardware installation is done, you’ll be able to set up the automation and connect the kit to a custom dashboard on your phone. Plant watering can be automated with the moisture sensor, or you can check the humidity level through the app since the sensor data can be accessed from the Arduino IoT Cloud, and manually trigger watering if you wish. You’ll find instructions to get started on the documention website.

If you don’t feel like having the electronics in the open air close to a glass of water, Arduino also provides the files for a 3D printed enclosure so you can print the enclosure by yourself if you wish to do so. The results can be seen below. I haven’t shared the link on Printables because it returns a 404 error at this time…

Arduino Plant Watering Kit is available now and sells for $53 or 50 Euros on the company’s store.

I’ll never understand why those board makers insist on using the ESP only for connectivity, it has all that’s needed to do the moisture sensing and watering.
