Yesterday, I ended up on the HPMicro website showing the illustration above about a 1 GHz MCU called HPM64G0. It looked interesting enough so I clicked on the link to a page with some documentation for the company’s HPM6700/6400 microcontrollers. But in typical Chinese fashion, I was asked for a mobile phone number to download the documents. No luck this time since a Chinese mobile phone number is required. If anybody can set up a mirror on Mega or other websites easily accessible outside of China that would be appreciated.
But eventually, I found an article in Chinese on EETrend where we can learn more about the HPM64G0 which happens to be a 1GHz microcontroller based on the RISC-V architecture. We already had one of those for Arm with the NXP i.MX RT1170, but I had yet to see any RISC-V microcontrollers clocked at such a high frequency.
HPMicro HPM64G0 preliminary specifications and key features:
- CPU Core
- 32-bit RISC-V core (RV32-IMPAFDC) at up to 1 GHz with FPU and DSP
- 32KB instruction/32KB data L1 cache, 256KB Instruction/256KB data L2 cache,
- Coremark score of 5650, and 2950 DMIPS
- GPU – 2D graphics engine
- Memory – 2MB SRAM comprised of 1.5MB SRAM and 512KB zero-wait instruction and data local memory (ILM/DLM)
- Display – RGB interface up to 1366×768 resolution @ 60 fps
- Camera – Dual camera support
- Networking – Dual Gigabit Ethernet with IEEE1588 (Precision Time Protocol – PTP) support
- Other peripherals interfaces
- 4 groups of 32-channel PWM with 2.5ns precision
- Analog
- 3x 12-bit ADC up to 5 Msps
- 1x 16-bit ADC up to 2 Msps
- 4x analog comparators
- 29x analog input channels
- Power management – Built-in DCDC converters and LDOs, an external PMIC is not needed
- Power Consumption – 700mW at 1 GHz
- Process – 40 nm
HPMicro says the HPM64G0 microcontroller targets consumer devices and Internet of Things applications, and it looks well suited for HMI with display support and a 2D graphics accelerator. There’s no information about development tools and software support, but the earlier HPMicro HPM6750EVKMINI evaluation board with an 800 MHz RISC-V MCU has some sample code for RT-Thread Studio and Segger Embedded Studio IDEs.
The article says that HPMicro HPM64G0 1 GHz RISC-V microcontroller is open for orders, but that samples will only be available starting from the end of February 2023.

China is highly unreliable state to deal with. Currently, I have two packages with Chinese electronic components that were returned by China customs without any clear explanation. I have submitted complains to the Chinese authorities nothing was done. Considering the poor technical documentation and technical support of most of the Chinese products. I would not recommend to anyone dealing with Chinese products.
Lol. Take what this guy says with a grain of salt. He probably had a bad experience with a shady dealer, and instead of admitting his lack of good judgement, he blames it on the entirety of China. How much truth there is to his words aside, he is a hypocrite. He’s been dissuading people from buying Chinese products since 2020, yet he continues to do so himself. He also allegedly reported the forum (that all this drama happend on) to the police and requested for his account to be deleted, yet he cannot resist coming back to the forum… Read more »
That is a topic describing some of the issues. Unfortunately the Chinese people are so horrible creatures, no one provide any help. The Chinese police does nothing. It is absolutely bad idea for everyone to deal with China. They do not resolve any issues, just lie and insult. There is discrimination against white people in China etc.
And you doing the same here will surely help ? Please stop this. OK maybe you had one or a few bad experiences, it happened to many of us, but there are also good ones and good products made out there. No need to generalize nor to ask everyone to agree with you. Over the last decade I only had one shipping incident with an indelicate vendor which was not refunded (~150 EUR). It made me particularly angry, but compared to all other ones that were instantly resent, refunded, and those sent a second time to fix a breakage on… Read more »
Sorry, but I have exhausted all possibility to deal with China. The Chinese authorities do not provide any assistance. By the way, I can ask all of you: Please stop advertise and import to Europe and North America bad quality Chinese products. They damage the local economy, pollute the environment and bring financial loses, damages … have no proper technical support etc. And before commenting something please read all the information, then comment.
Seeing here and in the thread above how you speak with lots of assurance, knowing better than anyone else and arguing with everyone that doesn’t agree with you, I perfectly understand how nobody would be willing to make effort helping you, whether they are vendors, authorities or anyone else. Even european vendors will not necessarily be willing to accept that. Problems happen all the time, that’s normal. If you accept that it’s not necessarily the other person’s fault and don’t start to scold them for their incompetence, there’s usually no reason they wouldn’t try to fix the problem since the… Read more »
I am sorry, but quite disagree with you. How many years you have in this industry ? In how many countries you have studies, worked ? In Europe and North America the economy, nature are destroyed from people like you. Big specialists understanding from everything. In short, I paid the Chines, no goods. I want what I paid for. If this is something difficult to understand to people like you, probably you shroud look for opportunities in other areas. As well as I would like to remind the Chinese getting money for something and not delivering is a criminal offense.… Read more »
3x 12-bit ADC up to 5 Msps
1x 16-bit ADC up to 2 Msps
You don’t see high resolution ADCs often in high-speed microcontrollers.
I wonder how good they are. To get the full 16 bits accuracy is tricky enough by itself, and even more when there are GHz cores and busses nearby.
The evaluation board doesn’t have any coax connectors. It’s next to impossible to get 16 bits resolution without disturbances over unshielded pin headers.
Does it also have an inbuilt audio codec, or at least an I2S interface?
Not sure if this is the same chip or not, but it seems quite similar from the same company. There seems to be a family of similar MCUs planned.
It has multiple I2S interfaces according to the block diagram.

Some of the specs are uncommon, especially the ADC and PWM resolutions. If that’s real and not just paper specs, it could have plenty of use cases.
There’s been a few times where I wanted to access something in China but I needed a Chinese mobile number. Being in the US, I can’t figure out how to spoof that. If anyone has any ideas I’d love to hear them.

1GHz for MCU sounds good. Do you know where to buy the board?
I’ve checked the company website and saw there are Chinese documents. Hopefully, it will be translated into English too.
