JetKVM Mini – A low-cost, ESP32-P4X-based KVM with Ethernet or WiFi connectivity

JetKVM Mini is a smaller, lower-cost version of the popular JetKVM KVM over IP solution. The new model features a small information display, offers Ethernet or WiFi connectivity, and supports 1080p video capture.

The main under-the-hood change is that they ditched Linux on a Rockchip RV1106G3 SoC and now rely on an ESP32-P4X (ESP32-P4 version 3.x and greater) to handle video capture, H.264 encoding, USB, and other features. The largest cost saving is removing the RAM and eMMC flash required by Linux.

Switching from Linux to the FreeRTOS-based ESP-IDF framework obviously required a complete rewrite of the firmware for the ESP32-P4X. But the user experience will be the same as the original JetKVM device, using the same protocols to integrate with the same web interface and cloud. The firmware will be open-sourced and released on the company’s GitHub account once the JetKVM Mini is closer to release.

On compatible hosts (Windows, macOS, and Linux), the JetKVM OS Services will enable capture of the target computer’s screen at up to 4K, and add a shared clipboard, a guest terminal, and file transfer support. 4K resolution is possible since video encoding happens on the host rather than the JetKVM Mini.

It’s not the first time we’ve seen an ESP32-P4 IP KVM, and ESP-KVM and P4 KVM projects did that with off-the-shelf hardware, but with ESP32-P4 instead of the newer ESP32-P4X. These are limited to MJPEG or really slow H.264 since an additional color space conversion step is required, and is not needed in the new ESP32-P4X.

You can’t buy the JetKVM Mini today, but you can register your interest, and pricing has already been announced:

  • JetKVM Mini – $39 for one, $33 per unit in a bundle of three
  • JetKVM Mini W – $42 for one, $36 per unit in a bundle of three

The new matchbox-sized KVM over IP device will become available on October 26, 2026.

The p4x is not available yet, only in samples for developers. I wonder how soon this hardware will actually ship.

With the release a month away, they likely secured direct factory allocations from Expressif, which is probably why there’s still no availability for distributors.

ESP-KVM author here ;), a small update to the “limited to MJPEG or really slow H.264” part. That was true on the rev 1.3 chip, where every frame has to go through the PPA for colour conversion first, and 1080p H.264 stays at 5-7 fps. ESP-KVM has had rev 3.x builds for a while now: there the capture hands the encoder its frames directly, and the same firmware does about 22-24 fps at 1080p and 28 fps at 720p. I test it on Espressif’s ESP32-P4X Function EV Board, and a user runs it on a rev 3 Waveshare P4-NANO.

It has an interesting price/feature ratio.

Need to compare with Radxa Linkr but definetly no more reason to not perform ‘remote’ work! 😉

With rising prices it’s very nice to see a cost-cut version of the JetKVM. Somewhat lower specs (1080p30 instead of 1080p60) are to be expected. Not including storage is more than understandable with current prices. I was however, a bit disappointed to see they don’t include any cables with it. It means that the unit isn’t usable out of the box. While an HDMI cable isn’t expensive, it’s not that cheap either. An HDMI and a USB cable easily adds 20% to the list price. It’s not the end of the world, certainly not enough of a reason not to… Read more »

Would love to see this with PoE to avoid another USB power supply.

And this would allow the KVM to be powercycled through the PoE switch in case this would be required.

Power can come from the machine they are attached to…

Would this work reliably with reboots etc. Main use case for KVM for me would be troubleshooting boot issues (besides network issues), as otherwise ssh access to the machine should be sufficient.

A separate POE to USB-C power adapter is around $15 on Amazon. Built in would be nicer for sure but it’s still doable.

WTF is “AI instruction extension” I’m tired boss.

They’re talking about Espressif’s “PIE” 128-bit vector math SIMD instructions that are marketed for model inference: https://github.com/espressif/esp-dl/blob/master/tools/agents/skills/esp32p4-pie-simd/references/instructions.md

All these matrix multiplication and vector dot product instructions overlap with the DSP use case which is why there’s also a dedicated FFT instruction. So, they’re actually pretty neat for non-AI signal process audio stuff.
