PocketCloud – Battery-powered, portable NAS takes up to 16TB of storage (Crowdfunding)

Firefly’s PocketCloud is a battery-powered, portable NAS powered by a Rockchip RK3568B2 quad-core Arm Cortex-A55 SoC with 4GB LPDDR5 of RAM and a 32GB eMMC flash for the OS, and supports up to 16TB of NVMe SSD storage.

It’s comprised of the battery-powered PocketCloud itself with WiFi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2 connectivity, and an optional dock with 2.5GbE networking and an additional M.2 NVMe socket. Since I’m unable to find a 16 TB M.2 NVMe SSD for now, I suppose the 16TB claim only works with an 8TB + 8TB configuration with one SSD in the main unit, and the other in the dock.

The PocketCloud can optionally connect to OneDrive, Google Drive, or Dropbox via StationCloud to back up your files. One neat feature for photographers is the One-Click Backup that automatically copies the files from a micro SD/SD card to the SSD with the click of a button without having to use any app or program. Firefly has launched the StationPC PocketCloud portable NAS on Kickstarter with a 30,000 HKD (about $3,850) funding goal that’s already been easily surpassed. Rewards start at $199 for the PocketCloud and $289 US for a bundle with the PocketCloud and Dock. Shipping is expected to add $10 to $40, depending on the country of destination. US and European users may get a different price, as Firefly says that taxes and VAT are included in shipping costs for all US and EU countries. If you are still charged any duties when receiving the products in the EU or US, you can contact Firefly to get a reimbursement. It’s unclear how the updated US tariffs may impact this.
