Day 4 of Giveaway Week 2024 will be for a development kit comprised of the Mixtile Core 3588E SoM based on Rockchip RK3588 octa-core Cortex-A76/A55 SoC and a Leetop A206 carrier board compatible with NVIDIA Jetson SO-DIMM modules.
This development kit is mostly useful to evaluate the Mixtile Core 3588E system-on-module, but it can be used just like any Rockchip RK3588 SBC with the company providing a Ubuntu 22.04 Desktop image for the board. Since it relies on the same edge connector as the NVIDIA Jetson TX2 NX module, the Core 3588E module can also be connected to other compatible carrier boards.
I reviewed the Mixtile Core 3588E development kit last December running Ubuntu 22.04. At the time, I found the Mixtile Core 3588E system-on-module performs well with the pre-loaded Ubuntu 22.04 image with a similar performance as on other Rockchip RK3588 hardware platforms. 3D graphics acceleration was working with the open-source Panfrost driver and so was 4Kp60 hardware video decoding with various codecs. I also checked out the I2C and UART interfaces from the GPIO header and the two M.2 sockets with an NVMe SSD and a WiFi 6 wireless module. The 6 TOPS NPU on the RK3588 SoC could run the YOLOv5 model at 60 FPS enabling real-time image processing.
Some downsides (as of December 2023) were the failure to play 8K AV1 videos smoothly on YouTube or with ffplay using locally stored files, and the Ubuntu image relied on the X11 windowing system instead of Wayland which should offer better support and improved graphics performance. NVIDIA Jetson Nano/TX2 NX compatibility was tested with the carrier board from an old NVIDIA Jetson Nano Developer Kit A02, but Ubuntu failed to boot. That’s probably because even the Jetson TX2 NX won’t work on the A02 either, at least not without tweaks, and the NVIDIA Jetson Nano Developer Kit B01 is recommended instead.
The prize for this giveaway is a fully-assembled kit with Leetop A206 carrier board, a PWM fansink, and a Mixtile Core 3588E SoM with Rockchip RK3588, 16GB RAM, and 128GB eMMC flash.
To enter the draw simply leave a comment with your country and whatever else you’d like to say (no links in the body of the comment). If the country is missing, I’ll consider the entry void. Other rules are as follows:
- Only one entry per contest. I will filter out entries with the same IP and/or email address.
- Contests are open for 48 hours starting at 10 a.m. (Bangkok time) every day.
- Comments will be closed after 48 hours. If comments are open, the contest is still going on.
- Winners will be selected with random.org and announced in the comments section of each giveaway.
- I’ll contact the winner by email, and I’ll expect an answer within 24 hours, or I’ll pick another winner. Note that I may not be able to contact people who log in with Facebook, Twitter, or Google, so it’s better to use an email address to enter the draw.
- Shipping
- $16 for registered airmail small packet or ePacket for overseas shipping payable via PayPal within 48 hours once the contest (for a given product) is complete. If PayPal is not an option in your country, we can try to find another payment solution.
- All prizes will be shipped at the same time once we get all the winners, so around November 14.
- I’ll make sure we have 7 different winners, so if you have already won a device during this giveaway week, I’ll draw another person.
This development kit is kind of a collector item because you can’t purchase it easily. Mixtile will only sell the module, so you’d have to find the Leetop A206 carrier board on another website. It’s out of stock on Seeed Studio ($200), but can still be found on AliExpress for close to $400.
