Giveaway Week 2024 – Jupiter RISC-V mini-ITX motherboard

The 11th edition of CNX Software giveaway week is underway! We have seven items to give away this time around: six review samples I will send myself and one from a company offering one of its cellular IoT development kits… The contest is open worldwide, and CNX Software Thailand is also joining the fun with four additional items available to people with an address in Thailand.

The first prize of this year’s giveaway is Shenzhen MILK-V Technology’s Jupiter RISC-V mini-ITX motherboard powered by a 1.8 GHz SpacemiT K1/M1 octa-core processor, equipped with 16GB LPDDR4x, and various interfaces and features such as M.2 PCIe 2.0 x2 socket for an NVMe SSD, a 4K-capable HDMI video output, two gigabit Ethernet ports, WiFi 6 and Bluetooth 5 module, and more.

I reviewed the Jupiter mini-ITX motherboard with Ubuntu-based Bianbu OS and an Auriga 6-Bay NAS mini-ITX chassis last August and the results were rather mixed. The system is usable for headless applications with Gigabit Ethernet, WiFi 6, and NVMe SSD storage working just fine, and the PCIe slot was also detected, but I had nothing to test it with apart from an old NVIDIA Geforce graphics card that’s not supported. However, while 3D graphics acceleration worked, the glmark2-es2-wayland score was fairly low, YouTube videos were not watchable in Chromium except at really low resolutions (360p/480p), and none of the USB 3.0 drives would be recognized… However, the RISC-V software ecosystem is evolving constantly, so maybe some of those issues are already fixed.

The giveaway includes the Jupiter motherboard, its rear panel plate, and two antennas for the wireless module. You’ll need to get an NVMe SSD to install the OS, either a 12V power adapter or an ATX power supply, and various cables and accessories to get started.

To enter the draw simply leave a comment with your country and whatever else you’d like to say (no links in the body of the comment). If the country is missing, I’ll consider the entry void. Other rules are as follows:

  • Only one entry per contest. I will filter out entries with the same IP and/or email address.
  • Contests are open for 48 hours starting at 10 am (Bangkok time) every day.
  • Comments will be closed after 48 hours. If comments are open, the contest is still going on.
  • Winners will be selected with random.org, and announced in the comments section of each giveaway.
  • I’ll contact the winner by email, and I’ll expect an answer within 24 hours, or I’ll pick another winner. Note that I may not be able to contact people who log in with Facebook, Twitter, or Google, so it’s better to use an email address to enter the draw.
  • Shipping
    • $21 for registered airmail small packet or ePacket for overseas shipping payable via PayPal within 48 hours once the contest (for a given product) is complete. If PayPal is not an option in your country, we can try to find another payment solution.
    • All prizes will be shipped at the same time once we get all the winners, so around November 14.
  • I’ll make sure we have 7 different winners, so if you have already won a device during this giveaway week, I’ll draw another person.

Good luck!

For reference, the kit above is sold for $115 plus shipping on the Arace website.
