ASRock IMB-A8000 industrial Ryzen Embedded 8000 mini-ITX motherboard takes up to 96GB DDR5 RAM

ASRock Industrial recently launched the IMB-A8000, an industrial and embedded motherboard in a mini-ITX form factor. As an embedded motherboard, it is powered by AMD Ryzen Embedded 8000 series APU which features 8 cores and 16 threads, built with 4nm technology, and including a 16 TOPS AI accelerator. The motherboard supports up to 96GB of dual-channel DDR5-5600MHz memory and includes one 2.5GbE LAN port and one GbE LAN port. With a wide temperature range of -20ºC to 70ºC this motherboard can be used in applications like manufacturing, robotics, machine vision, and more.

Previously we have seen SolidRun introduce the Bedrock R8000 industrial PC built around the Ryzen Embedded 8000 APU family. Other than that we have written about other Ryzen Embedded mini-ITX motherboards/SBCs such as the Flex Logic InferX Hawk combining an AMD Ryzen Embedded R2314 SoC with AI accelerators, the DFI RNO171 with Ryzen Embedded V2000 family, or more recently, the Sapphire Edge+ VPR-4616-MB with a Ryzen R2314 and an AMD Versal FPGA.

The company also introduced the IMB-A1002 mini-ITX motherboard with AMD Ryzen Embedded 7000 Series APU. This motherboard embeds AMD Radeon Graphics and is compatible with AM5 and B650 chipset. It supports up to 64GB of dual-channel DDR5 memory with support for four 4K outputs with DP 1.2 and one eDP 1.4b port. Other than that, it has dual GbE ethernet, USB, PCIe x16 (Gen5), M.2 M-Key and two SATA3 for storage, and much more. For security. the IMB-A1002 integrated a TPM 2.0 chip rather than AMD FW TPM which we find on the IMB-A8000 motherboard.

Asrock does not mention what kind of operating system this board will support but as we know from our previous posts that the Ryzen Embedded 8000/7000 APUs can support Microsoft Windows 11/10/Server 2022, Ubuntu Linux, and more.

Really, *really*’interested in learning how much power a Ryzen Embedded 8000 SFFPC really uses. The 1000 and 2000 series used too much, but they weren’t 4nm, so…

Embedded 8000 is simply the Hawk Point for consumer laptops and desktop APUs that we know and love. Somewhat more efficient than Phoenix. TDP should be adjustable.

Yeah, but it’s not just the processor as previous Ryzen Embedded SBCs and SFFPCs from Asus/ASRock showed very high power consumption (eg, the 4×4 BOX V1000M which used 12W in idle IIRC).

OTOH, I just noticed there’s no mention of ECC RAM support in either the product’s description or its datasheet… no ECC would make it instantly undesirable for me, I hope that’s just an omission in the docs and that the product indeed supports it.
