Elecrow LR1262 development board combines Raspberry Pi RP2040, SX1262 LoRaWAN module, and 1.8-inch LCD

Elecrow LR1262 development board combines a Raspberry Pi RP2040 microcontroller with the company’s LR1262 LoRaWAN module based on STM32WL LoRa SoC with support for 868 and 915 MHz frequency bands, and a 1.8-inch LCD.

The board also offers an RS485 terminal block to connect sensors and actuators, plenty of connectors and headers for further expansion, several buttons for user control, and LEDs for debugging/monitoring.

Raspberry Pi RP2040 LoRaWAN board display

Elecrow says the board can be programmed with Arduino or MicroPython using Raspberry Pi’s provided SDKs. I could not find documentation for the board itself, but the wiki for the LR1262 module describes the AT commands set and provides several examples for integration with The Things Network (TTN) and P2P communication:

  • Single-channel application routines for single-channel ESP32 gateways and nodes
  • Multi-channel application routines for single-channel ESP32 gateways and nodes
  • Single-channel application routines for Raspberry Pi gateways and nodes
  • Multi-channel application routines for Raspberry Pi gateways and nodes
  • LR1262 Point-to-Point communication application example

Note there’s no code that I could find. The wiki only explains how to configure the gateway and the module with AT commands. So the user needs to write the code using his preferred language.

LoRaWAN development board spring antenna rubber antenna

The LR1262 development board ships with a USB-A to USB-C cable, an 868/915MHz spring antenna, and an 868/915MHz rubber antenna. I first found out about the board on Tindie, but Elecrow also sells it on its own store for $21.90, as well as on Aliexpress for $27.02 with free shipping. The LR1602 module itself can be purchased for about $7.5.

It’s not exactly the first LoRaWAN solution featuring the Raspberry Pi RP2040 microcontroller, and we previously covered the MessengerPi LoRa messenger and walkie-talkie, SenseCAP Indicator D1Pro development kit, Adafruit Feather RP2040 with RFM95 LoRa Radio board, RAKwireless RAK11310 Raspberry Pi RP2040 LoRaWAN module, among others.
