Argon ONE V3 M.2 NVMe case for Raspberry Pi 5 brings all ports on one side, full-size HDMI ports

The Argon ONE V3 M.2 NVMe case for the Raspberry Pi 5 is an update to the Argon ONE M.2 case for the Raspberry Pi 4 that brings all ports of the Raspberry Pi 5 on one side and features full-size HDMI ports instead of the micro HDMI ports on the Pi 5 SBC.

Debashis has just written about the Waveshare Pi5 Connector Adapter board that connects to the micro HDMI and USB-C ports of the Raspberry Pi 5 to bring them alongside the other ports and features two full-size HDMI ports. It’s a good idea, but it lacks an enclosure. The Argon ONE M.2 NVMe case does something similar with an enclosure and supports for NVMe SSD drives.

Argon ONE V3 M.2 NVMe case key features:

  • SBC – Compatible with Raspberry Pi 5
  • Storage – M.2 NVMe SSD via Key-M socket connected to the Raspberry Pi 5 PCIe connector; heatsink included
  • Video & Audio Output – 2x full-size HDMI ports, optional 3.5mm audio jack
  • Expansion – Access to 40-pin GPIO header externally with magnetic cover
  • Misc
    • Power button
    • Built-in IR receiver compatible with Argon ONE Remote
    • Raspberry Pi RP2040 microcontroller to control fan speed, power management state (e.g. boot manually or automatically after a power outage by setting the jumper pins inside the case), etc…
  • Power Supply – USB-C port on the rear panel for power input
  • Thermal Management
    • Passive cooling using the aluminum alloy top case as a large heatsink connected to the CPU and power management chip of the Raspberry Pi 5
    • Active Cooling – Software programmable 30mm PWM fan
  • Dimensions – 106 x 94.8 x 41 mm

Raspberry Pi 5 case NVMe SSD

Once the Raspberry Pi 5 and M.2 NVMe are housed inside the Argon ONE V3 enclosure, you’ll get the Gigabit Ethernet, WiFi 5, Bluetooth 5.0, two USB 2.0 ports, and two USB 3.0 ports from the SBC, plus two full-size HDMI ports, an optional 3.5mm audio jack (requires DAC board), and a power button.

The Waveshare Pi5 Connector Adapter board is sold for just $6 on Aliexpress, but lacks an enclosure, M.2 PCIe socket, IR receiver, and optional 3.5mm audio jack. The Argon ONE V3 M.2 NVMe case has it all but costs about as much as the Raspberry Pi 5 SBC itself going for $55.99 on Amazon, or $49 on the company’s online store. If you don’t need the M.2 socket, there’s also the thinner and cheaper Argon ONE V3 enclosure sold for $30 on Amazon.

Love mine but wish it just worked with out needing it’s setup ran even with the audio. Module. I made a recalbox with it, but you cannot get the fan or the DAC working.

Let’s hope the Pi 5 version has better quality Micro HDMI connections than the Pi 4B models. The Pi4B models’ extenders often cause major issues with 18Gbs HDMI 2.0 connections used for UHD HDR video on the Pi 4B, and only really work on the lower bandwidth HDMI 1.4 stuff.
