FLIR Si2 acoustic imaging camera features 124 microphones to detect leaks and faults up to 200 meters away

Teledyne FLIR is well known for its thermal imaging infrared cameras, but the FLIR Si2 is different as instead of measuring temperature, the acoustic imaging camera is equipped with 124 sensitive microphones to detect leaks, electrical discharge, and mechanical faults up to 200 meters away.

The acoustic imaging camera also comes with a 5-inch display and a 12MP RGB camera. It is available in three variants: the FLIR Si2-PD for partial discharge detection, the Si2-LD for air leak and mechanical fault detection, and the Si2 Pro capable of handling both.

We are not told too much about the software, except the camera supports automatic Over The Air (OTA) firmware updates over WiFi or USB. The hardware specifications for each model look to be exactly the same, so they probably only differ by their firmware.

Most people won’t get such acoustic imaging cameras to detect water or gas leaks in their home any time soon, because the FLIR Si2 is designed and priced for the industrial market with the FLIR Si2-LD starting at $18,000, the Si2-PD goes for $19,000m and the Si2 Pro selling for a cool $25,000. Looks like a pretty cool technology. I guess one could also use that to record multiple conversations from far away. The directivity is impressive.

Fluke has had similar acoustic cameras, at similar prices, for a while:
