The 10th edition of CNX Software giveaway week is on! We’ll have seven items to give away this time around: six items that I will send myself from my review samples and one from a company that will offer one of its own IoT development kits…
We’ll start this year’s giveaway week with the VOIPAC iMX8M industrial development kit equipped with an “iMX8M Industrial Pro” system-on-module powered by an NXP i.MX 8M quad-core Cortex-A53 processor, fitted with 2GB RAM, 16GB eMMC flash, and a WiFi and Bluetooth module.
The VOIPAC iMX8M industrial development kit is quite a feature-rich development board whose main purpose is to evaluate the company’s system-on-module for integration into final products. I tested it last summer showing how to get started with the Yocto BSP by building the image from scratch, booting from the eMMC flash or a microSD card, and testing several features such as networking, audio, and storage.
As with every system that relies on the Yocto BSP, it requires some effort to get started, but everything that I tested worked fine, except for WiFi which had a lower-than-expected throughput. However, VOIPAC has been working on improving it with the Wi-Fi module manufacturer. The company also plans to release Android 12 and Ubuntu 22.04 LTS images, but neither seems to be available just yet.
The giveaway includes the VOIPAC IMX8M Industrial Development Kit with the carrier board and the system-on-module, two antennas, a quick guide, some cables, and thermal paste. I’ll also include a spare system-on-module that only comes with 1GB RAM. I’ve configured the board so that it boots from the eMMC flash. You’ll just need a 5V power adapter with a 5.5/2.1mm jack to get started.
To enter the draw simply leave a comment with your country and whatever else you’d like to say (no links in the body of the comment). If the country is missing, I’ll consider the entry void. Other rules are as follows:
- Only one entry per contest. I will filter out entries with the same IP and/or email address.
- Contests are open for 48 hours starting at 10 am (Bangkok time) every day.
- Comments will be closed after 48 hours. If comments are open, the contest is still going on.
- Winners will be selected with random.org, and announced in the comments section of each giveaway.
- I’ll contact the winner by email, and I’ll expect an answer within 24 hours, or I’ll pick another winner. Note that I may not be able to contact people who log in with Facebook, Twitter, or Google, so it’s better to use an email address to enter the draw.
- Shipping
- $32 for registered airmail small packet or ePacket for overseas shipping payable via PayPal within 48 hours once the contest (for a given product) is complete. If PayPal is not an option in your country, we can try to find another payment solution.
- All prizes will be shipped at the same time once we get all the winners, so around November 15.
- I’ll make sure we have 7 different winners, so if you have already won a device during this giveaway week, I’ll draw another person.
Good luck!
For reference, the kit above sells for 520 Euros plus 37 Euros for the high-gain antennas.

Greetings from France,
Thank you for the enlightening article. I’ve recently acquired a Variscite i.MX8 starter kit and I must admit that deciding on the right development kit for this journey was quite challenging.
Should you ever consider writing an article that compares various development kits and offers guidance on selecting the appropriate one, that would be very cool!
Thanks!
