Giveaway Week – e-con Systems e-CAM20_CURB camera

Today, we’re giving away the e-con Systems e-CAM20_CURB is a 2.3MP color camera with a global shutter that is designed to work with Raspberry Pi 4 SBC.

The camera is based on ON Semiconductor AR0234CS CMOS sensor and supports uncompressed video at 1920 x 1200 (2.3MP) up to 60 fps,  1920 x 1080 (Full HD) up to 65 fps, and 1280 x 720 (HD) up to 120 fps.

I just completed the e-CAM20_CURB camera review with Raspberry Pi 4 last weekend and found the video smoothness and quality to be much better than most cameras I’ve tried when there is motion, even in relatively dark scenes, since motion blur and artifacts are reduced. The company provides Yocto Linux and Raspbian/Raspberry Pi OS images with V4L2 drivers and Gstreamer tools, and the camera was fairly easy to use with the Yocto image thanks to the useful documentation provided with the kit. This also includes a developer guide explaining how to rebuild the OS from the source, but I did not try that part.

The giveaway includes the camera itself together with a 15-pin FPC cable, as well as the package that includes a Sales Order Number needed to download the documentation and OS images that I will transfer to the winner. So you’ll just need a Raspberry Pi 4, a microSD card, and HDMI or MIPI DSI display to get started.

To enter the draw simply leave a comment with your country and whatever else you’d like to say (no links in the body of the comment). If the country is missing, I’ll consider the entry void. Other rules are as follows:

  • Only one entry per contest. I will filter out entries with the same IP and/or email address.
  • Contests are open for 48 hours starting at 10 am (Bangkok time) every day.
  • Comments will be closed after 48 hours. If comments are open, the contest is still going on.
  • Winners will be selected with random.org, and announced in the comments section of each giveaway.
  • I’ll contact the winner by email, and I’ll expect an answer within 24 hours, or I’ll pick another winner.
  • Note that I may not be able to contact people who log in with Facebook, Twitter, or Google, so it’s better to use an email address to enter the draw.
  • Shipping
    • $15 for registered airmail small packet or ePacket for overseas shipping payable via PayPal within 48 hours once the contest (for a given product) is complete.
    • If Paypal is not available in your country, you can still play, and I’ll cover the cost of sending the parcel by Sea and Land (SAL) without registration if you win.
  • I’ll post all prizes at the same time, around the 16th of November, except for products shipped directly by companies which will be handled separately.
  • I’ll make sure we have 7 different winners, so if you have already won a device during this giveaway week, I’ll draw another person.

For reference, the camera sells for $99 on the e-Con Systems store.

I’m familiar with e-con Systems as I’ve looked at their offering several times in the past. Never actually owned any of their products, but they seem to make generally quite good cameras and camerage-gadgets. I, certainly, could find use for this camera.
