MangoPi MQ Quad is an Allwinner H616 quad-core Arm Cortex-A53 SBC following Raspberry Pi Zero W form factor, and the company’s earlier MangoPi MQ Pro RISC-V SBC featuring the Allwinner D1 processor.
The MangoPi MQ Quad also comes with 1GB RAM, a mini HDMI output, two USB Type-C ports, WiFI 4 and Bluetooth connectivity, a microSD card, as well a 40-pin Raspberry Pi-compatible GPIO header and an FPC connector with USB, Ethernet, and more GPIOs for expansion.
MangoPi MQ Quad specifications:

The “MangoPi MQ QuadCooling” model adds an aluminum case for cooling that still provides access to all ports, including the GPIO header. The company provides Tina Linux (OpenWrt), Ubuntu, and Android 10 images for the board, plus related SDKs, except for Ubuntu, as it is allegedly a tweaked image of the one for the Orange Pi Zero2 board. The Allwinner H616 board has been around for several years, and software support should be quite better than for the Allwinner D1 found in the MangoPi MQ Pro, plus you’d get access to the GPU and VPU inside the Arm processor. The MangoPi MQ Quad is sold for $26.70 on Aliexpress, while the MQ QuadCooling goes for $29.60 with the extra case/heatsink.

The H616 looks like a decent upgrade on the H6. Alas the linux mainline effort is way behind, so you are stuck with whatever allwinner provides as kernel patches.
The differences to H6 are USB3 and (rather useless) PCIe now missing and almost 20% lower CPU frequency. The only plus is a separate Fast Ethernet MAC + embedded PHY that allows device makers to further cut costs with wired networking. Not exactly what I would call an ‘upgrade’ 🙂

All those H616/H313 thingies run with a smelly Allwinner BSP kernel. Either 4.9.170 or patched up to 4.9.255 by Armbian. Current 4.9 LTS version is 4.9.326 and EOL is in 4 months.

Most of the bits actually went into v6.0, in particular now the DT bindings and files. Basic clock and pinctrl support was already merged in v5.12. USB support is still missing, but is technically solved, the same is true for HDMI as well, IIUC. Since it’s OpenSource, everyone is happily welcome to contribute, and be it to push for the missing bits 😉
And yeah, I agree that the H616 is not really an upgrade to the H6, except maybe for the video capabilities and the extra GB of DRAM.

At least my use cases are not compatible with any Allwinner offering until they really release something like the T723 with working PCIe and SATA. But even if T723 happens in the future RK356x is already there. And I guess we’ll be only seeing more crap like H618 from Allwinner…
So, compare to Radxa Zero1/2? And Pi Zero 2 W I guess.
If you want to use camera go for Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W. If you want low power consumption and high processing power go for Radxa Zero 1. Avoid anything with H6 and H616 due to overheating problems and therefore these boards are unable to keep running on max cpu frequency for longer periods of time or they are getting very hot are power consumption is high compared to other ono Allwinner boards. Can you see that large metal heatsink for MangoPi MQ ? I will get very hot, very whilst Radxa Zero can run without it at max speed (I have got 40pcs of Radxa Zero 512MB,1GB or 2GB versions) and you will not be able to hit 80C when ambient temperature is 20C and no additional fan cooling required.
At least you can buy them I suppose

Had ordered mine from AliExpress before this news was posted. Received it today. One advantage it has over the Radxa Zero is it can use the various hat boards (i.e. PoE Eth USB Hat) designed for use with the Raspberry Pi pogo pin as it provides the pads in the same location!
