UG65 LoRaWAN gateway supports Node-RED, up to 2,000 nodes

Node-RED is a popular flow-based, visual programming development tool originally developed by IBM for wiring together hardware devices, APIs, and online services as part of the Internet of Things.

But despite being designed for the IoT, I’ve seldom seen Node-RED support for LoRaWAN hardware, the only exception being the Axon platform, a tiny WiFi & LoRaWAN board. But there’s at least one more option with Milestone IoT’s UG65 LoRaWAN gateway, launched late last year, getting a firmware update that adds Node-RED support.

LoRaWAN Gateway Red-NodeUG65 LoRaWAN gateway specifications:

The gateway can be placed on a desktop or mounted on a wall or pole, and support management via a web dashboard, a CLI application SMS, on-demand dial, DeviceHub, or Milesight IoT Cloud. UG65 is compatible with The Things Network, ChirpStack, and LinkWAN. Firmware version 60.0.0.35 introduced support for Node-RED to the LoRaWAN gateway, but you may want to upgrade to 60.0.0.36 in order to access Node-RED over HTTPS according to the release notes for UG6x firmware.

If you look for the UG65 LoRaWAN gateway you may encounter the “Ursalink” name, which is simply the previous name for “Milesight IoT” after both companies merged together with Yeastar last December.

More details may be found on the product page. Milesight IoT does not appear to sell the gateway directly, instead, relying on distributors such as ICP Germany or MCCI with the latter offering the UG65 gateway for $370, or $460 with LTE cellular connectivity.
