GMSL2 camera kit supports 15-meter long cables, up to six cameras with NVIDIA Jetson Xavier AGX

We’ve recently seen it’s possible to use a long cable with the Raspberry Pi camera thanks to THine camera extension kit that works with 20-meter LAN cables using V-by-One HS technology.

e-con Systems has now launched a similar solution for NVIDIA Jetson Xavier AGX, one of the most powerful Arm devkits available in 2021, with NileCAM21 Full HD GMSL2 HDR Camera that supports up to 15-meter long cable as well as LFM (LED Flickering Mitigation) technology.

NileCAM21 GMSL2 camera-Jetson Xavier AGX long cableNileCAM21 camera features and specifications:

  • Based on OnSemi AR0233 Full HD camera module with S-mount interchangeable lens holder
  • Gigabit Multimedia Serial Link 2 (GMSL2) interface with FAKRA connector
  • Shielded coaxial cable for transmission of power and data over long distances (up to 15m)

Up to six cameras can be connected to Jetson Xavier AGX developer kit in a synchronized manner through the company’s NileCAM21_CUXVR multi-camera solutions with two MIPI CSI-2 interfaces.

On the software side, e-Con Systems provides a Linux camera driver (V4L2), Gstreamer 1.0 support for video recording and network streaming, as well as a sample application for image capture & preview.

When we covered the Raspberry Pi camera extension kit, we noted an outdoor telescope project as a use case for using a long cable for a camera, as the single board computer and monitor could stay indoor. e-Con Systems demonstrate two more use cases with agriculture automation as well as autonomous mobile robots.

The NileCAM21 GSML2 camera is currently sold for $299 without cable, while the NileCAM21_CUXVR single-camera kit with a deserializer board and 15-meter cable goes for $549, and the full six camera kit is offered for $3,499.
