AMD Ryzen Embedded V2000 mini-STX SBC to power gaming machines, digital signage, PoS…

SAPPHIRE introduced the FS-FP5V 5-inch SBC powered by AMD Ryzen Embedded V1000 processor in 2018, followed by FS-FP5R board based on AMD Ryzen R1000 processor the following year.

But with the launch of AMD Ryzen Embedded V2000 processor family in 2020, it should come as no surprise that Sapphire has also introduced a new 5″x5″ mini-STX SBC powered by Ryzen Embedded V2000 SoCs with Sapphire (V2000) FS-FP6.

Sapphire FS-FP6 specifications

AMD Ryzen Embedded V2000 mini-STX SBC

While the main change against the earlier Ryzen V1000/R1000 mini-STX SBC’s is clearly the new choice of processors,  there were some other small modifications including an extra USB 2.0 port, a USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-A port, a USB 2.0 header, an SPI header, and it looks like the M.2 socket does not support SATA anymore, but only NVMe SSD’s.

SAPPHIRE V2000 FS-FP6 mini-ITX SBC is said to be best suited for high resolution visual embedded applications such as electronic gaming machines, medical imaging, interactive digital signage, thin clients, POS terminals, etc… The company does not mention OS support, but being an x86 platform for embedded applications, I’d assume both Windows 10 and Linux distributions are supported.

The press release also mentions SAPPHIRE V2000 BP-FP6 4″x4″ motherboard for the same types of applications, but a smaller factor, and offers with the 15W processors only.

SAPPHIRE V2000 BP-FP6 vs V2000 FS-FP6

More details can be found on SAPPHIRE V2000 FS-FP6 and BP-FP6 product pages here and there. If you’re more interested in consumer products, SAPPHIRE plans to launch an AMD Ryzen Embedded V2000 mini PC under their Simply NUC brand soon.

The board looks well engineered, with the appropriate connectors on each side to make small desktops or even devices you can place on top of a shelf without seeing any cable while still having access to everything you could possibly need. It looks versatile enough to see plenty of real-world use cases.

Price?

More than you can bare. I’d optimistically say $500 to $1000+ depending on the CPU. If for home usage, go with a desktop APU and ITX or mATX mobo. Less expensive and will provide better performance. The embedded series V1000 and now V2000 are not for power/home users.

True to a point. Basically… this is meant for commercial or industrial applications that might need the heavy-duty Graphics Power of running 4 ++ DP 4k Screens!

Also Sapphire is using an Acer Laptop Adapter Port size of 5.5×1.7mm. Which is not typical for Mini-STX Adapters w/ 5.5×2.5mm plug for Intel 5×5 Boards!

Finally got it running w/ no info anywhere on how to power this Sapphire (w/ Acer adapter port) STX PC! ….it’s a BEAST on Graphics alone w/2 Gigabit Ethernet ports (for firewall) and dual-band wifi onboard!!! ….bought open box Silverstone STX PC for cheap at $180!

Useless for home user. AMD is giving very hard time to normal users forcing them to stick with regular desktop CPU’s on purpose, I’m starting to give up on them for the mini pc range because they confirmed once more they have 0 interest on cheap mini computers. It’s really really sad, but everything is always made for a reason, and the user isn’t usually one of them.

Sad for you maybe… but this 4x DP 4k Screens STX box PC isn’t meant for home use!

Where it’s doubtful you’d ever need more than one DP port to utilize it. I bought 1 of these for $180 finally found the power adapter port size (I guess they think people can guess that it’s a Acer port size of 5.5×1.7 & not common 5.5×2.5mm STX adapter size!

I’m powering a 50″ 4k screen above my bed for gaming and web w/ Ubuntu installed running Great!!!

I bought this Silverstone VT01 STX box w/ Sapphire Ryzen/Vega Graphics MB. But w/ no idea what the power adapter port size is, I bought a Silverstone AD120-STX adapter as recommended by consult w/ Silverstone (uses 5.5×1.7mm barrel/pin size)!

Wrong pin size port so this Power Adapter doesn’t work. But… this Ryzen/Vega board is now supported in Linux Installs (but maybe not BSD)!
