Giveaway Week – Libre Computer ROC-RK3328-CC Board

What will be the prize on the fourth day of this year’s giveaway week? Libre Computer ROC-RK3328-CC, a development board based on Rockchip RK3328 processor and mostly following Raspberry Pi 3 form factor.

ROC-RK3328-CC Heatsink MountWhen I reviewed the board with Debian 9 last summer, I was mostly reminded how important fast storage and proper power supply were important. I had some kernel panic when using slow storage (micro SD card), but when I switch to the eMMC flash stability improved a lot. I also had some troubles with my USB 3.0 hard drive, but switching from a 5V/2A power supply to a 5V/2.5A power adapter solved most of my problems. Once I had “solved” those two issues the board worked fairly well, and Libre Computer always aims for mainline Linux support on their board, so that’s an advantage to take into consideration.

  1. Cool! I really appreciated charbax’s interview with one of the libre computer guys. They seem to have a good vision but they could stand to participate in the community more from a strategic perspective. Full credit for XeHue’s involvement of course.

  2. Have yet to try out a rockchip based sbc, would be intrigued to compare with other boards.

  3. I won one at Kernel Recipes and it’s a really nice little board with decent performance, good I/O (GigE, USB3), low heat. I find it a bit better than Odroid-C2 despite the lower frequency, probably due to USB3. It could make a nice small USB3 NAS. I haven’t tried any enclosure for it but it seems to me it can fit into a Raspi one. BTW, exclude me from the lottery as I don’t need another one, and good luck to the winner!

  4. If you no longer have any use for the board I’m sure I could find a use for it 🙂

  5. I am assuming how to tell What might be the life span of such board in long run compared to a raspberry pi.
