As new platforms are being introduced to market, companies have to clear their stock of older devices, and iMito QX1 HDMI TV dongle based on Rockchip RK3188 quad core processor is now going for $30 on Aliexpress, including shipping.
iMito QX1 specifications as a reminder:
- SoC – Rockchip RK3188 Quad core Cortex A9 @ 1.6Ghz with Mali-400 MP4 GPU. (or maybe RK3188T @ 1.4 GHz now)
- System Memory – 2GB DDR3
- Storage – 8GB NAND Flash + microSD card
- Connectivity – 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR
- Video Output – HDMI
- USB – 1x USB 2.0 host + 1x mini USB port for power
- Misc – Reset/recovery button, external antenna connector.
- Power – 5V/2A via mini USB port
- Dimensions – 99 x 40 x 10.8mm
- Weight – 42 grams
The latest firmware is based on Android 4.2.2, and there are also some custom ROMS (Finless, Nitro Team, etc..) for the device. QX1 is sold with a power supply with a USB cable, and a short HDMI cable. An external antenna does not seem to be included, so if you want one, you’ll need to spend a few dollars. The antenna can be purchased on GeekBuying or Aliexpress for about $7.

Nice 🙂
Ordered one to runing a HTTP server on it.
Yet this doesn’t stop the manufacturers from quoting prices of 78.$ for the same item
Does this support miracast and stuff?
@Max, is there any Linux rom or is there a way to run web server off custom Android?
@fossxplorer I am using the “Ultimate Servers Pro” App, which has over 60 different server types. Including MySQL and PHP/lighttpd.
There is also Ubuntu for this device: https://github.com/sgjava/ubuntu-mini
You are right but i would like to use the stick also for XBMC and SNES emulator. I think this is simplier done with Android than Ubuntu. The only thing i am not sure about performance regarding Android vs. Ubuntu.
It seems the US$30 dongle advertised as iMito QX1, it is not an original iMito as shown in the last photo.
Beware

Also, here are are some pictures of the original QX1 and the Ipegtop A2 for comparison :

They seem to have the same components (Hynix memory, RDA5876A BT, RTL8189 WiFi).
I’ve ordered one so I hope it isn’t a scam.
Btw leolas from Freaktab has working 3.0.36 Jelly Bean kernel sources for QX1 on his github:
https://github.com/leolas/ANDROID-KERNEL-QX1
Seems like OEM:
http://www.freaktab.com/showthread.php?5958-Clone-or-not-Ipegtop-A2
So the ROMs out there won’t work on this clone? I’ve already ordere done already.
Me too :/
I have send a message to the seller and asked if this is the iMito or the clone.
@Max, i did also send a msg to the seller. If i can’t run custom ROM or Linux as they indicate on Freaktab, it’s less interesting.
Although it’s kinda cheap 🙂
Price seems to be 60 euros for me?
@Laurens: the price changed: https://my.owndrive.com/public.php?service=gallery&t=2d7e1a413aeafb09746c53b38e212531
$30 ? now 72

it seems to still be the cheapest price, but it’s up to $72 USD now. 🙁 I guess I missed the boat.
@Tim
there are still other cheap similar ones

@Al
It looks very good, but $28 and shipped by DHL by a seller without feedback…
Firefox OS firmware port from Matchstick for this would be cool
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/matchstick/matchstick-the-streaming-stick-built-on-firefox-os
The Ipegtop photo was removed. So maybe original 🙂
The seller has not responded so far :/
Who would pay $72, it’s kinda outdated and you’ll find RK3288 based ones for $90-100.
But the seller replied to me and said it’s original iMito. But it remains to see when i receive it 🙂
Mine arrived ultra fast after 8 days. It looks like the original iMito QX1.
The package contains the minipc, HDMI extender, 5V/2A adapter and the antenna.
It works, I will run some tests later today to see if the hardware matches the description.
My order instead has been canceled by seller after 8 days, no shipment done and no shipment will be done.
Now I must wait for a refund (probably another 1 or 2 weeks) and I will risk to loss some money on exchange commissions
Received mine today in silver. Also with antena, HDMI cable and power suply 🙂
Mine arrived on Tuesday (black version + antenna). I’ll try to build a KitKat kernel for this device. Thanks Gabe and cnxsoft, it really was a bargain 🙂
@Max
Hi, have you succeeded with running Web-Server on this TV-stick?
What web-server dare you using?
I need something with PHP and MySQL.
Thanks in advance.
@Timur
Hi Timur,
Sorry for late reply.
I am running Lighttpd with PHP and MySQL on this stick. Works perfect 🙂
Best,
Max
@Max
i’m looking for the same thing. are you running that on the android system it comes with?
I’ve kept my promise 🙂
Here is KitKat for the iMito QX1:
http://freaktab.com/forum/tv-player-support/rk3188-devices/imito/22986-android-4-4-2-kitkat-for-imito-qx1
And here is a minimal Debian Wheezy (runs directly from an SD card):

@Balint Banyasz
Hi Balint,
I just noticed your work, much appreciated man!
I have a QX1 myself currently running Leolas 4.2 JB version not very stable but it’s working as a TV+kodi setup.
How is your Kitkat version? is it stable enough to go make the jump?
Are IO speeds improved because on 4.2 it’s kinda terrible.
Need any help btw?
I’m a somewhat all around developer .NET,SQL,PHP,JS,Gen. UNIX exp but don’t have any kernel building experience.
thanks for the reply!
